I visited HK a few years ago with my mom and being back after 5 years did not give me a feeling of been there, got the T-shirt, but it’s an ever developing, ever growing city with so much to explore that it will never become old. It’s a busy place and crowded, filled with many hidden alleyways, underground restaurants, markets and malls nestled between massive sky scrapers. A lot of malls and markets. From food malls, tech malls, clothing malls, a flower, fish and bird market, sneaker street in Mongkok ….and the list goes on and on. If you want to shop, this is the place to shop, not just for the bargain hunters, but it is also filled with designer boutiques in Kowloon and we literally did not see one jewellery shop which did not have at least 10 people in it.
This city’s food culture is so diverse and if you dare, HK is one insane culinary experience. Most streets are lined with restaurants and also food stalls with odd smells as locals prepare weird steamy broths of some sorts, especially in Mongkok. Here you can eat curry fish balls, intestines and smelly tofu. We did try stay clear of most of the meaty foods as you somehow cannot help but wonder what you’ll be eating. We did however have some incredible dim sum and buns and were in awe with the selection of items you can eat in HK, from Milk pudding, egg tarts, hot pot, egg waffles, milk tea and then some bizarre food like Pig Lung Soup, Snake Soup, Shark Fin, Sparrows Saliva etc.(Eeeeew). HK comes alive after 6pm and trying to find a restaurant with an open table is also one heck of a challenge.
HK is just incredible with it’s awesome view over the city from The Peak on Hong Kong Island, the most spectacular Victoria harbour view at night with all the lights, riding the old tram through Central which gives you that real old time HK feel with it’s dried seafood shops, it’s very efficient MTR system. It’s a city that will leave you in awe.
Writing about HK in only a few paragraphs is actually impossible, so we’ll take you through this amazing city through our pictures.
